Super jeep

The super jeep was born in Iceland.  No one really knows for sure how these vehicles got the name “jeep “but the most popular version is that the name comes from the world War II.  The US army brought their lightweight all-terrain vehicles to Iceland.  There were hardly any roads in Iceland at the time and these vehicles turned out to be quite useful when driving off road in the harsh conditions in this island in the north.  They were called General Purpose vehicle and the name General Purpose or “GP” was slurred until the name stuck as “Jeep” translated into Icelandic as “Jeppi”.

Around 1980’s Icelanders began to experiment in their garage to modify these cars to be able to get into the highlands.  Especially in winter.  To do so they started to put bigger wheels and talked about “Super Jeep” to tell the difference from normal 4x4 “Jeep”.

So, Super Jeep is a four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicles equipped with massive suspension systems and tires ranging from 38″ to 46″ in size.  Besides using enormous tires, these vehicles have reshaped bodies to house the larger wheels, extended suspension, and a special lift kit to increase the ride height.
